Plastic is everywhere

I have to agree with Nature Lover’s letter, ‘Time to rethink grocery shopping’, published in the Weekend Bulletin on October 3 that we use too much plastic.

I went to two different supermarkets recently and realised that most of the items came with plastic packaging. I tried to minimise wasteful items in my trolley, but all I saw were plastic-packaged grocery. And I believe most consumers would buy whatever they need without thinking about the plastic that will be discarded later.

While I applaud the authorities for enforcing the use of reusable grocery bags, I think they should go further by encouraging suppliers and supermarkets to use less plastic.

Using cling film might be handy but it pollutes the environment; it is simply not necessary to wrap every product in it.

I hope the authorities will look into further reducing our impact on the environment.
