The Brunei Netball Association (BNA) is planning to hold the National Netball League in June while the General Meeting will also be held in the same month for which all clubs are invited to vote.
The details were revealed during a get-together, the BNA held with local netball clubs at Tarindak Beach Restaurant in Jerudong recently.
Members of men’s and women’s teams from MS ABDB, MS PDB, MSSBD, Prisons Department, Ivy League, Angel Net, Spitfire, Red Butterfly, BSRC, Jalapeno, Stallions, Fox Warriors, 7Strike, Strike Force, Rejuven8, Temburong Netball Club, X One, Eagles Squad, Politkenik, DCM and Velunu Famz attended.
President of BNA Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Hajah Wan Shahlimar binti Haji Suhaili was the guest of honour. Senior BNA members were also present.
Hajah Wan Shahlimar said BNA members contributed to develop netball in the country and a number of annual programmes have been planned.
She said, “Netball clubs should be under the auspices of the association with a systematic entry fee and be able to attend coaching and umpiring courses and tournaments.” She said the association boasts certified umpires with one ‘B’ badge and four ‘C’ badge holders who have participated in courses overseas recognised by the Asian Netball Federation and International Netball Federation.
Four local umpires officiated internationally recognised championships including the Asian Netball Championship and the Asian Youth Championship in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan. The national netball team also had exposure overseas in Australia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, the national netball team withdrew from the Singapore Super League, from February 28 to March 8, and the Indoor Games in Bangkok in May 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
