Photography contest winners receive prizes

Winners of the Borneo Bulletin Photography Contest 2019 were awarded during a prize presentation ceremony at the One Riverside Plaza in Menglait, Gadong yesterday.

The contest was held in five categories. The first place winners were Chiew Wee Cheng for the People & Culture category, Law Hieng Hing for the Places & Landmarks category, Hassnal Sulaiman for the Food & Sports category, Bong Poh Yuk for the Energy (Oil & Gas) category, and Haji Mohammad Yusop bin Mohammad Yassin for the Industry category.

Guest of honour, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin presented prizes to the top three winners.

Accompanying the minister to present the prizes were General Manager of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd Hazizah Osman, Managing Director of Interhouse Company Vincent Goh, and Baiduri Bank Berhad Head of Group Corporate Communications Dorothy Newn.

Meanwhile, consolation prizes for the five categories were presented by the Senior Manager – Finance and Operations of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd Suzie Houng, General Manager of The Coffee Bean Brunei Arlene Terrado, Finance Manager of Makan Ceria Nimewirnah binti Haji Hanafi, Planning and Improvement Lead at the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Siti Diyana binti Abdullah, and Chief Executive Officer of Progresif Sdn Bhd Hajah Nurul Haniah binti Mohd Haji Jaafar.

QAF Brunei Group CEO Albert Lau was also present.

The General Manager of Brunei Press, in her welcoming speech, said the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has supported the contest since 2016.

She said the 2019 contest drew a huge response with over 700 entries where aspiring and talented photographers captured creative shots of Brunei Darussalam from landmarks, people, food, sports, culture, energy and industry.

In view of the enthusiastic response for the contest over the years, the General Manager added, Brunei Press will hold it again this year which will be announced on Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata.

Prizes included Canon EOS 200D cameras, Baiduri Bank savings accounts, Huawei phones, Progresif postpaid bundles, DJI Osmo Mobile 2, CBTL Coffee Machines, CBTL vouchers, McDonald’s vouchers and cash, sponsored by Interhouse Company, Baiduri Bank, BSP, Makan Ceria, The Coffee Bean Brunei and Progresif.

The Borneo Bulletin Photography Contest 2019 received excellent response with creative entries submitted in hard copy and online between September and October 2019.

Winning photos were judged and selected based on the photographic quality, creativity and effectiveness in conveying the beauty and uniqueness of Brunei by representatives of the sponsors and Brunei Press.

The top entries were displayed at Plaza A of One Riverside during the prize presentation ceremony which was later toured by the guest of honour.
