    Philippine embassy ready to help

Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn R Tirol-Ignacio visited centres catering to special needs individuals and their families to know what the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam can contribute to the students and support system for their families.

The ambassador visited the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei, the Brunei Autism Centre for Adults’ (BACA) and Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam on August 18 and 24.

SMARTER Brunei’s Acting CEO and First Vice President Sharifah Adila Surya binti Malai Haji Abdullah met the ambassador and gave an overview of the organisation run by parents and family members of individuals with autism.

During her visit to Pusat Ehsan, the diplomat met with its Executive/Operational Trustee Pengiran Datin Hajah Noraini binti Pengiran Dipa Negara Laila Diraja Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin. She emphasised that having an educational curriculum especially for special needs individuals is important as they transition from being students at the centre to independent adults in the society and are able to live and work by themselves.

In both visits, the ambassador toured the education and rehabilitation facilities, as well as observed a class in session and interacted with the students and parents at the centres.
