Peugeot’s best-selling model, the 208, is back on Brunei shores with a sportier and classier look. However, this is the not the latest 208 but a previous model with a facelift.
With the latest 208 model not yet available for the Asia market, Peugeot has instead produced a batch of 208 model in 2017 with a facelift for the region and local authorised distributor TCY Motors has secured 12 units.
John Tan of TCY Motors’ Peugeot Brunei marketing team highlighted that the facelifted 208 PureTech model features a contemporary modern design and a build quality most evident with the Peugeot i-Cockpit and the award-winning PureTech engine.
The interior of the new Peugeot 208 benefits from an original lighting ambience. Pure and modern white backlighting is used for the instrument panel and its needles, as well as for all of the controls.
The moulded dashboard strip has new graining on the upper trim levels and the soft touch and refined finish give the dashboard body an even higher quality presentation.
Meanwhile, the Peugeot i-Cockpit reinvents the driving experience with an innovative layout.
The compact steering wheel combined with the compact dimensions of the Peugeot 208, at under four metres in length, make this an agile vehicle that is ultra-manoeuvrable in urban environments and provide enhanced driving pleasure.
The head-up instrument panel places the essential driving information in the driver’s field of vision for greater comfort and safety while the restrained and elegant design, white lighting ambience and central display screen on the other hand assure the precision and legibility of driving information.
The seven-inch touch screen provides intuitive and easy access to all systems from audio and telephone to vehicle information and brings with it the best of on-board connectivity namely the Bluetooth and USB.
The LED courtesy lamp and the blue light guides in the panoramic roof contribute towards this technological, calm and refined ambience.
The 208 has been judged as an urban hatchback with a full and rich personality, perfectly in line with the brand’s values since its launch.
Featuring a classy exterior styling, designers set the objective of increasing the attractive and assertive nature of the model by giving it a greater impact and making it more incisive.
This identity goes hand-in-hand with improved robustness and perceived quality, resulting in the 208 drawing attraction from the first look.
Up front, the bumper displays a sharper, more precise and muscular line with a wider grille and a thicker chrome finisher fully integrated into the bumper.
On higher trim levels, the stamped chrome finisher on the grille gives it a 3D effect and combined with separate front fog lamps, this transforms the 208 to be wider, more dynamic and more ‘planted’ on the road.
The front is equipped with two-tone headlamps, with black and chrome masks structuring the lamp for a sharper look, and an LED light signature.
From the side view, the reduced overhangs and contained weight gives the model and energetic and contemporary proportion while the carefully worked sculpted sides, chrome window surrounds and so forth are retained. The profile of the 208 however can be distinguished by its equipment, shown to advantage with an exclusive Titanium Matte Black 16″ sequential diamond-cut alloy wheel.
At the rear, the full LED light clusters incorporate Peugeot’s 3D ‘claws’ which form part of Peugeot’s style identity.
NEW ULTRA-EFFICIENT ENGINE
Recognised for its remarkable dynamic performance since its launch, the 208’s compact size, lightness, aerodynamics and handling, examples of the brand’s best know-how, deliver a perfect combination of comfort and road holding and it also benefits at launch from the EAT6 (Efficient Automatic Transmission 6) six-speed automatic gearbox.
Take a peek into the PureTech; the three-cylinder petrol technology with CO2 emissions from 79g per km, this engine, which is modular and compact, clean and high-performance, is a concentrate of efficiency and the latest technology.
With a high pressure (200 bar) direct injection system, a high-efficiency turbocharger (running at 240,000 rpm), it offers drivability among the best in the market, and this from very low engine speed and coupled with the EAT6 automatic gearbox, which uses Quickshift technology, allows faster gear changes while still ensuring fluid operation and pleasure in use of the highest level and has also been designed to drastically lower CO2 emissions.
This resulted in the difference in emissions compared to the version with manual transmission is reduced to 1g/km – with the same tyre fitment – and with an official CO2 emissions figure of 104g per km, the 1.2-litre PureTech 110 S&S EAT6 is the reference in terms of a petrol automatic transmission in its segment.
It also achieves a reduction of 45g CO2 per km compared to the previous generation, which is the 1.6-litre VTi 120 automatic.
In addition to its comfort and driving pleasure, the Peugeot 208 is still fitted as standard with all of the safety systems that allow it to earn five stars in the EuroNCAP tests (ESP, ABS, EBA, EBFD, etc) hence this level of passive safety makes the 208 one of the safest cars in the segment.
