Personal hygiene, cleanliness are key, say Imams

    Azlan Othman

The public needs to be aware of personal hygiene and cleanliness at residences, places of worship, workplaces and public places to create a clean living environment that is always attractive, Imams said in the Friday sermon yesterday.

Every individual must be self-disciplined in taking on the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness and having a love for cleanliness.

The culture of advising each other in terms of maintaining cleanliness must be present and the public must protect the facilities provided in the best possible manner, they said.

Imams added that resorts, drainage, rivers and others must be maintained so that they are always in good condition, clean and not damaged due to vandalism, pollution and irresponsible behaviour. “One should not litter indiscriminately and not pile up used items in public places, rivers or roadsides”.

Such irresponsible acts ruin the beauty of the place, disturb the peace, cause danger, and adversely affect health, safety and the environment.

The Imams also said November is the month in which the golden jubilee (50 years) celebration of the establishment of the Department of Town and Country Planning (TCP) is held which carries the theme: ‘Reviewing 50 Years of Town and Country Planning: Achievements, Challenges and the Future’.

November is also the Celebration of World Town Planning Day.

TCP is not only responsible for land use planning but also has the role in creating physical development, sustainable and resilient environment, they said.
