THE Belait District was treated to a fun-filled spectacle of song, dance, drama and comedy through the Information Department’s Pentarama, at the arena located alongside the night bazaar at the Tudung Saji last weekend.
Held as part of the 73rd birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the multi-act variety intended to spread positive messages on education, nationalism and religion among the local communities.
In attendance as the guest of honour was Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Kuala Belait Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin.
Acting Deputy Director of the Information Department Sastra Sarini binti Haji Julaini, as well as mukim penghulus, village heads and representatives of various agencies also attended.
The first performance, the Zapin Morena dance by the Pembela Hana troupe, set the tone for the rest of the night, as more spectators became drawn to the variety acts.
Several local artistes – including Ezah Hashim, Juan Madial, Nasir HAR and Ely – then took to the stage to sing the Pentarama theme song and Dirgahayu, in acknowledgement of the passers-by who stopped to view the performances.
The spectators were also entertained by a sketch titled Mendambakan Maghfirah-Mu, on the themes of dementia, drug abuse and good neighbourly relations.
Afterwards, local comedians Hajah Kasumawati and Haji Firdaus invited the audience members to take part in some quizzes.
Pentarama will continue to make its way across the country.
More shows were held at the open area near the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital in the Tutong District yesterday, and more will be held at the Pekan Bangar Community Hall Complex in the Temburong District on July 27.
