Patriotic rides mark National Day

As part of the convoy in celebration of the 39th National Day, 25 Mercedes-Benz vehicles – old and new – from the Brunei Benzer Club completed a 100-kilometre-long Patriotic Ride yesterday.

Acting Village Head of Kampong Sungai Kelugos and Kampong Sinaut Haji Ismail bin Haji Mohammad flagged off the convoy at the helipad at Sungai Basong Recreational Park, Tutong District.

The club’s President Abdul Aziz bin Haji Md Daud led the convoy as the group made their way from the Tutong District to the Belait District where they made a U-turn at the Rasau roundabout before turning their sight on the Liang Lumut Recreation Club for high-tea to conclude the ride, with the journey clocking in at around one-and-a-half hours to complete.

Some 309 motorcycle riders from 39 motorcycles clubs, including 39 bikes carrying large national flags, took part in the 39th National Day ride yesterday that commenced from Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex.

Director of Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Halus flagged off the convoy in the event organised by Support Bikers Brunei and supported by Youth and Sports Department under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Also in attendance was Support Bikers Brunei President Pengiran Haji Amir Khalid Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Dr Haji Amir Md Yussof and other members.

Before the start of the event, the convoy was given a safety briefing and information on the route.

The convoy headed to the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex’s open area before returning to the Indoor Stadium.

Meanwhile, 39 Honda bike owners also took part in a ride to mark the National Day celebration, flagging off from the BTop Motors Honda showroom yesterday.

Participants from Gadong to Temburong District rode to the newly-built green jewel monument and then back to a restaurant in Gadong.

The ride was organised by BTop Motors, the main distributor of Honda bikes in the country.

BTop Motors Sales and Marketing Manager Narawi Merusin, who flagged off the convoy, said, ”Every year we organise a national ride event in conjunction with the National Day celebration.

“Last year we rode to the Tutong District. However in 2021, we couldn’t organised the ride due to COVID-19 restrictions.”

He added, “The ride aims to celebrate Brunei’s National Day while gathering Honda bike owners to foster closer ties. “
