A MALE patient at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital who leapt from the first floor of the building yesterday morning reportedly only suffered minor injuries, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in a statement last night.

Photos of the incident showing the man lying on an access road and receiving medical treatment were widely circulated on social media and WhatsApp yesterday.

It was unclear why the man leapt from the building, but MoH explained that the man jumped from the first floor of Block 3 of the hospital at around 11.10am, adding that hospital staff and security were able to keep the situation under control.

The statement added that the patient was immediately attended to by nurses and paramedics and given first aid, and was later brought to the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department for further treatment.

He was also given psychiatric treatment at the Psychiatric Department.

The MoH said that the patient is now in a stable condition.

The ministry advised the public not to spread pictures of the incident through social media and WhatsApp to protect the patient’s privacy and to prevent confusion among the public.
