The Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) and the Institution of Surveyors, Engineers and Architects (PUJA) yesterday morning inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Longhouse Training Restaurant at IBTE’s Sultan Saiful Rijal campus.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, as the guest of honour, witnessed the signing ceremony.
Signing on behalf of IBTE was its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director of Technical Education Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli, while representing PUJA was its President Haji Mohd Hanafi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Abdul Rahman Dr Haji Mohd Zamri, in his welcoming remark, said, “The collaboration symbolises a commitment to mutual growth, innovation, and a shared vision to contribute to advancements.
“The MoU’s objective is to establish, promote and develop collaboration between IBTE and PUJA in research, education and training programmes of mutual interest related to quantity surveying, engineering, and architecture programmes.”
He added, “One of the key areas of cooperation is the establishment of a PUJA Student Chapter within IBTE, serving as an association for students by providing them with professional opportunities. By becoming part of the PUJA Student Chapter, IBTE students will have the chance to learn and develop leadership skills, engage in networking activities, and benefit from mentoring opportunities. Through this initiative, we aim to nurture the next generation of professionals who will drive innovation and excellence.”
Meanwhile, the PUJA President said the institution will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and “we have been contributing various regional and international organisation”.
He also shared that the institution will be hosting in August the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) Congress, which is held annually, It will see institutions from 15 member countries congregate in Brunei.
Haji Mohd Hanafi said, “PUJA Brunei hopes to increase engagement with IBTE and its faculties to assist with the establishment of the IBTE Puja Student Chapter.” – James Kon
