Pakistan to reap socio-economic benefits from second phase of CPEC

ISLAMABAD (Xinhua) – Pakistani Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Khusro Bakhtiar said last Saturday that his country will focus on reaping socio-economic benefits from the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Sharing the minutes of a meeting chaired by Bakhtiar in his office last Saturday in a series of tweets, the ministry said that officials from federal and provincial governments attended the 58th progress review meeting of CPEC projects, during which it was informed that the government has accelerated the pace and implementation of CPEC. Bakhtiar noted that the completion of CPEC will contribute to sustained development of Pakistan, underlining that bottlenecks related to CPEC projects are being resolved on top priority for their timely completion.

The minister was apprised that Gwadar Development Authority has provided water supply for the construction of the Gwadar International Airport whereas the country’s Civil Aviation Authority will provide alternate supply of electricity till the generation of electricity in the area starts.

Special economic zones are one of the main focusses of the current government, and the minister was informed that supply of required 10mw electricity will be made available by December 2019 for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s Rashakai Economic Zone.

Officials from Sui Northern Gas Pipeline also assured that gas supply to the forthcoming industrial park will also be provided on priority basis.
