A total of BND226,058 was raised for the National Orphans Fund through the short messaging service (SMS) donation campaign ‘SMS Brunei Prihatin for Orphans fund’ for 2022 by three local telecommunication companies.

The donations were handed over to the Community Development Department (JAPEM) under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports during a ceremony yesterday.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad received the donations.

The largest contribution was from DST Sdn Bhd at BND205,518, of which BND195,518 was from DST subscribers and BND10,000 from DST staff and officers. DST Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Radin Sufri bin Radin Basiuni handed over the donation. Meanwhile, BND20,000 was raised by Progresif Sdn Bhd subscribers. The donation was handed over by Progresif CEO Nurul Haniah binti Haji Jaafar.

imagine Sdn Bhd collected BND540 with the donation handed over by company representative Abdul Hafiz Aizuddin bin Haji Hasheim.

SMS Brunei Prihatin is an annual project organised jointly by JAPEM with Radio Television Brunei (RTB) and telecommunication companies since 2005 as a platform to facilitate public donation to registered orphans under the national orphans registration.

Since the start, the project has received encouraging public response. All received donations will be channelled to the National Orphans Fund under JAPEM.
