    Over 4,000 senior citizens vaccinated

    James Kon

Since the opening of slots for senior citizens aged 60 years and above on April 22 under the National Vaccination Programme, 4,689 senior citizens have received the COVID-19 vaccination.

According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), the oldest individual who has received a COVID-19 vaccination shot so far is a 96-year-old local woman.

The MoH welcomes and gives priority to senior citizens for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Senior citizens are advised to reserve a vaccination slot through the BruHealth app to avoid long waiting time. However, slots for walk-ins are available in limited numbers.

Those wishing to get the COVID-19 vaccine are required to wear face masks,  practise social distancing in the queue and follow the instructions of the vaccination centres.

Scientific studies found the elderly are at a higher risk of suffering more severe complications from COVID-19, and the vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection among the elderly.

Since the implementation of the National Vaccination Programme on April  3, 52,775 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered nationwide.
