OVER 300 students participated in the Softball Showcase organised by the Brunei Darussalam Softball and Baseball Association (BASBA) at the Meragang Sixth Form Centre recently.
The programme aimed to introduce softball to students for their co-curricular activities.
Players from Wanderers, Pasadena, Gunners, Divas, Kensei, Chikara, Zombies and the softball national team participated as coaches at the programme.
The introduction to the theory and basic fundamentals of the game was facilitated by Vice President of BASBA Major (Rtd) Wan Tambrin bin Haji Suhaili. The second part of the programme was the practical session.
Students were divided into three stations – Catching and Throwing station, Batting station and Playing Diamond station.
Five schools were selected for the first phase of the programme namely Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School, Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School, Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, Katok Secondary School and Meragang Sixth Form Centre.
The second phase will commence on April 1, where coaches will be stationed at each schools every week to train with them.
Vice President of BASBA hopes that each school would build and have their own softball team by the end of the year. This will be followed by the third phase which will see BASBA organise an Inter-School Softball Tournament.
