Operations uncover four labour violations

Lyna Mohamad

Four offences were recorded during two operations by the Labour Department’s Labour Enforcement Division recently.

The operations targetted two locations in Kampong Delima Satu. The first operation found an employer failing to provide a contract and employing a foreign worker from another company without authorisation.

The second operation uncovered an employer failing to provide a first aid kit and having an employee working contrary to his work pass designation.

These offences, if found guilty, will find the employers liable to a BND600 fine for the first offence, BND900 for the second and be brought to court for the third violation or failure to make payment.

The operations were aimed at enforcing Employment Order 2009. The Labour Department reminded employers to ensure their employees’ welfare such as providing contracts and pay wages on time. They are also advised to not misuse the foreign worker licence.
