Operation uncovers two labour violations

Officials of the Law Enforcement Division at the Labour Department during a recent inspection at a retail store, found two offences committed by the employer.

The inspection at a retail store selling furniture in Kampong Jangsak found the employer had failed to provide first aid equipment. The employer had also violated the terms of the licence to hire foreign workers, where the foreign workers employed as general labourers, were found working as cashiers.

The employer if found guilty of breaching Employment Order, 2009, faces a fine of not more than BND1,000. The employer will be produced in court if he or she fails to pay the fine.

The Labour Department reminded employers to monitor employees’ welfare in accordance with Employment Order, 2009 requirements. – Azlan Othman
