    Operation foils alcohol smuggling attempt

A recent joint operation by enforcement agencies foiled an attempt to smuggle 550 cans of alcohol into the country.

Enforcement personnel detected and tried to intercept a suspicious-looking boat carrying three individuals at the waterways of Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge.

The boat sped away after noticing the presence of the enforcement personnel with several packages thrown into the water during the chase. The boat escaped to a neighbouring country.

Enforcement personnel recovered discarded packages and found 550 cans of alcohol. The contraband was handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED).

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force, the joint operation codenamed ‘Operasi Rondaan Teluk’ involved Marine Police, Royal Brunei Armed Forces, RCED and Narcotics Control Bureau focusing on the waters of Brunei Bay. – James Kon
