One hefty fine for three separate offences

A Malaysian man was ordered to settle a fine of just over BND71,000 by the Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded guilty to a series of charges pressed on him for violating three separate offences – the Infectious Diseases Act (IDA), Immigration Act and the Excise Order.

On Monday, Jalani bin Asbol, 29, was ordered to settle a fine of BND71,800, or face 17 months’ jail in default of payment.

Prosecutor Nurul Husna binti Abidin revealed in court that the defendant was arrested by personnel under the Company ‘C’, Police Reserve Unit of Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) as well as personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) who were patrolling Kampong Junjongan on October 21 at 1am.
