Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society’s (BRC) Community First Aid programme aims to train at least 1,000 individuals comprising mukim and village residents within a year.
BRC Deputy Secretary-General Wardatul Zahirah binti Abdul Razak said this during a speech at the programme’s launch at Annajat Complex yesterday.
The programme, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), will be implemented by mukim and village institutions to provide first aid skills to save lives and manage emergencies.
Wardatul Zahirah said the skills will also be helpful to ensure safety and well-being at home and during accidents. The programme is part of BRC’s efforts to realise the Ministry of Health’s vision to have a first aider in every household by 2035. BRC previously collaborated with MoHA in implementing the Community-Based Disaster Relief Management (CBDRM) programme and Disaster Preparedness Course (DPC).
Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, the guest of honour, presented first aid logos to representatives from the four districts.
The minister also launched BRC Knowledge Hub and BRC National Emergency Operation Hub.
The knowledge hub is a learning and reference centre for first aid knowledge.
The event also saw a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with ‘Friends of BRC’ Atha Sdn Bhd, Ashcore Sdn Bhd, Biovitality Medical Supplies Sdn Bhd, Trane Aire Sdn Bhd and Ting Sii King Sdn Bhd. BRC Acting President Simon Leong Kian Ann signed the MoU which is part of a partnership to develop Global and International Humanitarian Cooperation Project. – Rokiah Mahmud
