On the red carpet

AFP/GLAMOUR – Fashion at the VMAs is the most dependable in the least predictable way. At the end-of-summer gathering that is the intersection of music, TV, film, TikTok, and influencers designed to celebrate the best in the world of music video creation, you never know who’s going to show up wearing what. Lizzo was the first to arrive (in a gorgeous billowy navy dress) and needless to say, the singer didn’t disappoint.

But early in the arrivals, the carpet was fairly muted, with a lot of sleek black ensembles, aside from the occasional pop of teal or green, and Chloe Fineman in the most chic duvet/comforter-esque look we’ve ever seen.

Then Taylor Swift arrived in her signature red lip and cat eye in a sparkling silver minidress, and it truly felt like the VMAs.

“They replace the traditional, historical shirt/tie/bow tie, and give a new energy and reality, a younger attitude also,” Simons said.
