Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd presented conditional offer letters of employment to 85 local students from Politeknik Brunei during a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Politeknik Brunei (PB) and Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd on Saturday.

Muhammad Hazim Khuzairi bin Haji Mohd Amirol Azman, who is taking Level 5 Diploma in Laboratory Technology, said, “I didn’t do well for my ‘A’ Level, so receiving an offer at Hengyi is a second chance for me, to redeem myself.”

“The course in the first semester was quite basic,” he said. “I am currently in the second term and I need to revise more and better manage my time”.

Muhammad Hazim Khuzairi, 20, also needs to learn Mandarin.

He said he has spelling tests every week at the beginners stage. “It’s not easy, but it’s fun to learn a new language,” he said.

Meanwhile, Siti Nursyahirah binti Shahminan who is also taking Level 5 Diploma in Laboratory Technology said, “I am thrilled to receive this opportunity. I will learn more hands-on skills than just theories.”

She added, “The course is very different from other subjects. We did analysis and took samples from pond water to be analysed.”

Siti Nursyahirah, who previously studied at Chung Hwa School, has no problem picking up Mandarin.

She hopes to be able to work for Hengyi Industries to gain experience working for a leading international company.

Student of Level 5 Diploma in Chemical Engineering Muhammad Safwan bin Azmi said, “It’s a very good opportunity for us to gain employment.

“But it’s still a conditional offer, which means we will need to put in the effort to obtain a confirmation.”

He said, “The course is not easy for us as well as the tutors because it’s new.

“We have to learn new skills. In the fifth semester, we will be continuing our study at Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic for a semester before being placed for an internship.”

Ummi Nadzirah binti Abdul Ghani, meanwhile, said, “I am very grateful for the offer. We still need to study hard to get a confirmation of employment.

“Since I am still in semester one and a fresh graduate from IBTE in HNTec laboratory sciences, I have a little background in first semester modules.

“The modules in the next semester will be more in depth, and I am looking forward it.

“Working in Hengyi will surely see me acquire more skills and experience,” she said.
