Occasional heavy showers, thunder expected over the week

The weather condition over Brunei Darussalam is forecast to be active starting today until Wednesday, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) announced.

The active weather condition is due to the influence of a low pressure system over the South China Sea, which has resulted in moist atmospheric conditions and thus enhanced the development of active rain clouds.

Showers, occasionally heavy and thundery, are expected to affect many areas of the country. Wind speed may reach up to 40 kilometres per hour during or near heavy and thundery showers.

Over Brunei waters, sea condition is generally at slight state, with wave height of below one metre.

The Sultanate is currently in the second phase of the Northeast Monsoon, where generally Northeasterly wind is more dominant and the atmospheric conditions tend to be more stable with less rainfall activities.

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. The risk of falling trees is still expected during heavy showers and gusty conditions.

There is also risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide.

Public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by BDMD, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.

Latest weather information, advisories and warnings can be accessed through BDMD’s mobile app Brunei WX.

Updates can also be obtained by contacting the duty meteorological forecaster at the Forecast Centre, through Weather Line 114, the BDMD website at www.met.gov.bn or on Facebook (@bruneiweather) and Instagram (@bruneiweather).
