The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Sports, Big BWN Project and Zero Waste Brunei will be organising an ‘Expansion of the No Plastic Bag Everyday Initiative Campaign (NPBE+) at Gerai Ramadhan Belia, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
Effective 1st Ramadhan 1445, corresponding to March 11 or 12 (subject to the sighting of the new moon of Ramadhan), market stalls at Gerai Ramadhan will not be provide plastic carrier bags to visitors. The public visiting the stalls are advised to bring reusable bags when buying for iftar.
Visitors are also encouraged to bring and use other reusables, such as reusable food containers, tiffins and tumblers.
The campaign, which involves the government, private sector, businesses and non-governmental organisations as well as the public, aims to reduce the use of single-use plastics and thus slowdown the generation of plastic waste.
