THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced two men to nine months of imprisonment each, after they pleaded guilty to the charge of theft.
Abdul Rajak bin Jumat, 39, and Mohammad Rus Andy bin Haji Salleh, 38, admitted to stealing six condenser coils belonging to the Ministry of Health (MoH) from the chiller yard at the Muara Health Centre in Kampong Pelumpong, somewhere between 6pm to 8.30pm, on June 13.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Aeny binti Zullizam informed court that the two men had hired a pick-up truck with a driver, to assist them with the loading of the stolen items.
The defendants also conspired with a third person, purportedly a security guard on duty, who supervised them while the stolen items were loaded onto the truck.
The defendants then ordered the pick-up truck driver to go to Kampong Manggis, as part of an arrangement with the latter’s colleague.
The items were sold the next day, and the proceeds were split among them as agreed.
The defendants’ acts eventually came to light, after an employee at the health centre lodged a police report on the missing items.
Senior Magistrate Hajah Azrimah binti Haji Abdul Rahman presided over the case.
