Nine individuals completed a 10-day tourist guide course and received certificates to be licensed tour guides yesterday.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab presented the certificates in a ceremony held at the MPRT’s Setia Pahlawan Hall.

This was the 11th course since its introduction in 2016.

To date, there are 201 registered tour guides that joined the course conducted by Tourism Development Department and Laksamana College of Business (LCB).

The course aims to strengthen the skills of a tour guide to provide quality service and meet the industry standards, such as providing accurate information. It also opened up employment opportunities for locals, especially the youth.

The Tourism Development Department welcomes youth to participate in the course which will next be held early next year.

It is an offence to work as a tour guide without a licence under Regulation 21 of the Tourism Order 2016. Those found guilty for the first offence will be fined no more that BND5,000 and a second offence will result in a fine of no more than BND10,000.
