Three companies were slapped with compound fines for offences under Section 12(1)(a), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act during operations by the Licensing and Enforcement Division of the Brunei-Muara District Office.
The offences include disposing waste in non-designated areas and conducting open fire, the officials said in a press statement.
The companies were each issued with a BND500 fine.
Meanwhile in another operation, six companies were also found violating Section 12(1(a), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act.
Three companies were each issued with a BND500 fine while the other three companies issued with a BND200 fine.
The companies were given a week to settle their fines and an instruction to clean their areas.
Failure to do so, the offenders are liable to compound fines of BND1,000 for the first offence, BND3,000 for consecutive offences and subsequently a three-month jail term.
The Brunei-Muara District Office reminded the public and business owners to maintain cleanliness of public spaces and business premises.
