Rotary Club of Belait (RCB) members welcomed the newly appointed District Governor for Rotary International District 3310 Joanne Kam to the Belait District on Wednesday.

Present to welcome the newly appointed District Governor was RCB President Henrietta Hiew, who was accompanied by club admin Helen Tang, as well as RCB members.

After arriving in the Sultanate, the District Governor made her first visit to the Belait District and met RCB members at the Old Folks Home, Seria, where she along with the RCB members spent time with the elderly residents.

Speaking to the Bulletin, Kam said that while this was not her first time in Brunei, it was her first time visiting the Belait District as she aims to help support and guide members of RCB in better serving the community in the district.

“We (Rotary Club International) want to ensure that the RCB is operating well by having the necessary resources and manpower to serve the community,” she said.

As part of her visit, she will be journeying across the nation to take a closer look at various projects and activities conducted by not only RCB but also the Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan (Rotary Club BSB).

This includes trips to Labi to visit an RCB project supporting a blind elderly resident and visits to the long houses in the area which the club supports.

The new district governor is also slated to travel to the Brunei-Muara District to meet with members of the Rotary Club of BSB.

Kam also shared that she plans to continue her journey to other countries under the District 3310 of the Rotary International as it provides her with a better understanding of the challenges faced and efforts made to overcome them in bid to support their communities.
