New mothers struggling amid COVID restrictions

I would like to applaud healthcare workers, who have been doing a stellar job in keeping the populace safe, especially those working in hospitals, attending to the ill and the vulnerable amid the pandemic.

However, I am deeply concerned about the mental state of new mothers at the hospital ward.

Due to the health protocols, these women have to deal with motherhood in the absence of their husbands, with quite a few struggling to cope with the pressure. I understand that one mistake could erase all the hard work of the authorities; and I certainly don’t want that to happen, especially now that restrictions are easing.

Nonetheless, I urge the authorities to find a balance between safety and mental health for these mothers and come up with a strategy to protect their well-being. After all, a newborn’s survival depends on the state of the mother.
