New initiative supports native tree conservation

Dynamik Technologies Sdn Bhd launched its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, the “Dynamik Trees” programme, in collaboration with the Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.

The programme supports the ex-situ conservation of five native tree species at the UBD Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC) through the ‘Adopt A Tree’ project. Additionally, 23 saplings of high conservation value native species were planted in the UBD BRC on September 18.

Chief executive officer of Dynamik Technologies Haslina binti Haji Mohd Taib officiated the launch, alongside UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle.

“We are pleased to adopt 14 endangered, near-threatened and vulnerable trees to ensure their growth while contributing to biodiversity research. Our initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability and our core value of stewardship,” said Haslina.

IBER, UBD Director Dr Hussein bin Haji Taha, highlighted the importance of partnerships in fulfilling the UBD BRC’s mission to conserve the Sultanate’s unique flora, and the need to support the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP) by increasing forest cover through afforestation.

The research team at UBD BRC will study the growth and survival of the saplings to improve future efforts. Guests at the launch also experienced the digital audio guide of the UBD BRC garden, created by Dynamik Technologies. – James Kon
