New home for python found in Kampong Salambigar

Six firefighters and a fire truck rushed to Kampong Salambigar where a three-metre python was found in a drainage on the third day of Hari Raya. The firefighters used a snakecatcher to capture the reptile before releasing it to its habitat.

ABK 150 Abdul Rahman bin Haji Edin from Lambak Kanan Fire Station led the firefighters.

The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) in a press release stated that firefighters have caught an increasing number of reptiles, particularly cobras and vipers, in the Sultanate. In 2020, two firefighters were injured while assisting in a similar incident. Both recovered and no fatalities were recorded.

Although the firefighters are armed with personal protective equipment and follow standard operating procedures, catching reptiles are considered risky.

The FRD advised the public not to attempt to approach or threaten any wild animals. The public can contact the department if they encounter any wild animals roaming around their premises.
