New converts receive financial aid for Haj journey

Eight Muslim converts received Haj travel allowances from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) during a ceremony at its Secretariat Office at the Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday.

MUIB Acting Secretary Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop presented the financial assistance to Anis Nadirah binti Abdullah @ Janeo anak Asut, Nur Iman Yong binti Abdul Rahman @ Yong Chui Ching, Muhammad Eddy Khairi bin Abdul Rahman @ Yamang Ah Puk Choi, Nursamana binti Haji Abdul Aziz @ Samana binti Yunton, Kandiah binti Abdullah @ Kandiah binti Samat, Mohammad Ridzuan bin Abdullah @ Pangatin bin Yar, Danial Afiq bin Abdullah @ Norremey bin Nordi and Betty Hanifah binti Haji Mohammad Ukit @ Bettty Ukit.

Each recipient received BND4,500 Haj Passage Fund from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam; and BND2,000 travel allowance derived from the Zakat Asnaf Muallaf money collection.

They have been granted the Haj Passage Fund according to the rates provided for government officers. In addition, they also received BND9,700 derived from the Zakat Asnaf Muallaf fund to assist them in paying for their preferred Haj travel packages.

Prior to getting selected, the new Muslim converts were interviewed in accordance to the guidelines outlined by MUIB.
