Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong hoped the Chinese Ambassador Award would further strengthen the country’s education and achieve Brunei Vision 2035.
“This is the first time we are presenting the award to Politeknik Brunei (PB) students,” she said yesterday.
The Chinese Ambassador Award is an integrated programme between the Chinese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Five education institutions have been selected for the programme including PB.
At the eighth PB convocation ceremony, 14 students from PB programmes received the Chinese Ambassador Award.
Yu Hong also shared that the award is part of the initiative to encourage the students to contribute to the country.
“Brunei Darussalam and China have very good bilateral cooperation and education is part of it. We also have very good cooperation with different universities and colleges in the country including the MoE,” she said.
Azib bin Mohammad, a recipient of the Chinese Ambassador Award, said that it was an honour to receive the recognition. “For me it is an amazing award where it recognises our efforts, achievements and success,” he said.
“We faced many challenges, especially during the pandemic where we had to study online. One needs to work smart, be disciplined in studies, know your goals and balance life by engaging in other activities.”
Companies from China have collaborated with higher education institutions to train local youth who have a passion for Chinese culture, economic development and technology.
The Chinese Ambassador Award is given to encourage more Bruneian students to engage in the education programmes, especially under the Belt and Road Initiatives Framework.
The award is also aimed to inject enthusiasm among youth to contribute towards the country’s development and promote cooperation between Brunei and China.
