The opening of the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge in March 2020 brought various developments to Temburong, in terms of infrastructure and the establishment of the Temburong District Development Authority which plays a role in monitoring the developments and progress in the district.
This was highlighted by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Emran bin Haji Sabtu, in his closing remarks on the final day of the 17th LegCo session yesterday.
With a link established between the capital and Temburong District, Yang Berhormat Haji Emran said that the fuel prices in Temburong currently match those in other districts. At the same time, he called for the relevant parties to continuously monitor the prices of goods, including locally-produced items.
Yang Berhormat Haji Emran also expressed hope for the implementation of plans and initiatives such as the upgrading of several buildings in Pekan Bangar; developing the area of Mukim Labu, namely Kampong Labu; economic projects such as the upgrading of Tamu Perayaan and Tamu Aneka Selera; tourism packages; activity-based products; the Temburong Green Initiative; and agricultural, livestock and fisheries sites to develop the district further.
He also called on relevant parties to set up a site for a Forest Biodiversity Exhibit in the Temburong District, with the purpose of educating the community and the younger generation, in addition to emphasising the importance of conservation.
Regarding the efforts to produce local merchandise which is readily available in the district, Yang Berhormat Haji Emran appealed to entrepreneurs or businesses, including the Mukim and Village Consultative Councils’ One Village One Product (1K1P), to boost the production of their merchandises, while striving to improve the services to customers and the public.
He added, “Once the borders are re-opened in the future, it is hoped that Temburong will not just be a stopover destination.
“Indeed, the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge is a gift from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty’s Government, which is of great value and significance to the history of Brunei Darussalam.
“Therefore, I urge all those using the bridge to preserve that highly valuable facility, in order to maintain the continuity of road links and the smooth functioning of all matters depending on it.”
