TWO men allegedly involved in a series of five mobile phones theft cases in separate locations in the Brunei-Muara District were nabbed by Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) personnel.

Both suspects carried out negotiations of the sale and purchase of mobile phones through Facebook and would then set up a meeting point with the seller. Once the suspects met the victim, they would come up with a strategy to flee with the mobile phone, the RBPF said.

Both suspects were arrested following investigations conducted by the Special Duties Officer of Berakas Police Station.

The first suspect, permanent resident Han Yan Seaw, 27, is unemployed, while the second suspect Lim Chze Hau, 39, is a self-employed local.

Both suspects were produced before the Bandar Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing charges under Section 379 of the Penal Code Chapter 22, which is theft.

Han Yan Seaw who pleaded guilty to the charge was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment commencing May 13, while Lim Chze Hau did not plead guilty, and the next hearing date is set for May 27.

The RBPF reminded the public to be cautious of criminal activities.
