Need for special education teachers at religious schools acknowledged

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) acknowledged the need of special education teachers for special needs students at religious schools.

The ministry has implemented several initiatives including training courses conducted by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), said Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman on the 9th day of the 17th Legislative Council session yesterday.

The minister was responding to a query by Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat  Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman regarding special education teachers.

The minister said apart from training courses provided by the MoE, KUPU SB also offers a Bachelor’s degree course on Islamic education which includes special education. A number of students have completed the course and they will be absorbed as special education teachers in due course, he added.
