More than 120 participants brought along their elegant birds to showcase nature’s chorus in the second edition of the birds singing competition organised by the Village Consultative Council of STKRJ Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria yesterday. Held at the village’s open field, the competition saw participants from within Brunei and abroad bringing in a wide variety of birds to compete in terms of their singing prowess.
Organiser Hassan bin Haji Masri said the competition aims to bring together like-minded people and groups in appreciating the birds’ melody as part of the soundscape of the nation’s natural environment. “The competition’s first edition saw more than 80 participants, and for this year, we are grateful to see more than 120 competing in the four categories,” he said.
Competing in the four categories were black headed murai, white headed murai, black and white headed murai, and a canary. Each bird was assessed by a panel of judges based on the melody, voice, and volume; with the top 15 birds in each category receiving prizes for
their performance.
“We hope the competition serves as a platform to appreciate nature’s beauty and enliven the village,” Hassan said.
