THIRTEEN national netball players left the country yesterday to compete in the 2019 Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia to be held from today until May 4.
Present to see off the delegation at the Brunei International Airport was Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud.
Also present were Deputy Permanent Secretary (Youth and Sports) at the MCYS Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, Acting Director of Youth and Sports Mariam binti Ulat, and other officials from the ministry.
The Brunei contingent is taking part in three events – netball, athletics for para athlete and swimming.
Some 1,500 athletes from more than 40 counties will compete in 17 sporting events in the 2019 Arafura Games.
Brunei has participated in 10 Arafura Games including five times by para athletes.
