    National golfer bags BJIS golf charity title

    Awangku Muhd Syakir bin Pengiran Haji Alli continued his impressive form at the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club after adding the Bright Jigsaw International School (BJIS) Silver Jubilee Charity Golf Tournament title to his growing collection yesterday.

    The national golfer carded a two-under-par 70 to emerge winner of the overall gross open category, marking his third triumph in the last four tournaments held at the golf course.

    Tony Haji Karim emerged winner of the overall nett open category while Haji Ahmad bin Haji Zainal won the senior gross category.

    Other winners also included Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof in the VIP nett; Haji Omar bin Haji Asmat in the senior nett; Young Ren Wee in the Division ‘A’ nett; Mohd Rizal Hadi in the Division ‘B’ nett; Mohd Arman bin Haji Abdullah in the Division ‘C’ nett and Elisabeth Borsheim in the overall nett ladies category.

    Elisabeth has been slowly emerging as a regular competitor in the ladies golfing scene to challenge the likes of serial winner Almas Syadzwanie Kamis and Agnes Dela Cruz.

    Meanwhile, BJIS President Shazwani binti Haji Shahibulbahri said in his welcoming remarks, “Bright Jigsaw International School was established on September 23, 1996 and this year, our school will be celebrating its silver jubilee anniversary.”

    “In response to this special day, our Managing Director Haji Mohammad Sambas bin Haji Bagol, decided to organise the school’s first ever charity golf tournament for Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA).”

    She added, “The main objectives in organising such tournament is not only to commemorate our silver jubilee anniversary but it also aimed to help the orphans in Brunei Darussalam.”

    The tournament, which spanned three days, saw a participation of 125 golfers with 100 per cent of the proceeds to be donated to Dana. Of the 125 individuals, 86 participants registered in the open category, five in the VIP/sponsor category, 27 players in the senior category and seven players in the ladies’ category.

    Guest of honour Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi also presented prizes to the winners.
