Over 300 participants, including senior government officials, prominent business figures and overseas experts attended the National Business Conference 2023 at the International Convention Centre, Berakas yesterday.

The conference, themed ‘Beyond Recovery: Building a Sustainable Digital Future’, aimed to explore how the public and private sector can collaborate to advance a sustainable digital economy and work towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035.

Chair of the APEC Business Advisory Council Brunei and the Executive Director of LVK Group of Companies Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadi said in her welcoming remarks: “We are very grateful for the significant interest in the National Business Conference 2023 which seeks to bring together all stakeholders in our economic future.

“As a country that is connected to the global economy and plugged into the trading architecture, such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, it is imperative for the Brunei business community to understand global trends and challenges and how they impact our businesses,” she added.

Meanwhile, Chair of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Brunei and Chief Executive Officer of Dynamik Technologies Brunei Haslina binti Haji Mohd Taib said, “We are seeing the major trends in digital transformation and sustainability, where they complement one another.

“Rather than treating digital and sustainability in isolation, a twin transition strategy can unlock huge benefits in terms of efficiency and productivity. There is an urgency to accelerate the digital sustainable transformation in Brunei as there is a largely untapped opportunity for technology and data to drive sustainability goals. Furthermore, the twin transition can create a positive impact by ‘greening’ technology, data assets and infrastructures while accelerating sustainability across the organisation.”

The conference was an opportunity for the participants to gain significant insight into the business environment for the year ahead that will help them plan and prepare as well as network with participants.

The National Business Conference 2023 was part of the Brunei Economy Programme, an initiative by the ASEAN and APEC Business Advisory Councils of Brunei in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Economy and in partnership with Baiduri Bank and leading organisations to connect global issues with the Brunei economy.

AIA, Darussalam Enterprise (DARe), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS), Royal Brunei, Radio Television Brunei, Borneo Bulletin, and Media Permata are also partners of the programme.
