BRUNEI Darussalam’s national dragon boat team was crowned champions in the Open Men Paddler category and third place in the Open Mixed Paddler category in the Bali Badung International Dragon Boat Festival 2019 recently.
The competition held at Kedongan, Jimbaran, Bali saw the participation of local and overseas teams from nine countries.
The race started at Kedongan with the route covering some of Bali’s scenic attractions including Tanjung Benoa, Kuta and Seseh before finishing at Pandawa.
According to the President of Brunei Darussalam Boat Race Association (PERKEBAR) Haji Haris bin Haji Ibrahim, praise must be reserved for the national team for enhancing the image of the country during the championship
He expressed his pride and gratitude on the team’s success, adding that this will help fuel spirits to other teams to promote the sport of boat racing.
The Brunei team in the Open Men Paddler category shared the gold medal with the Jakarta Dragon Boat team after both teams finished the race with an ideal time of 0:50:38. Cilacap took bronze with a time of 0:51:18.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Dragon Boat team secured the gold medal in the Open Mixed Paddler category after they recorded a time of 0:57:03. PODSI Sidoarjo struck silver with a time of 0:59:03 while Brunei claimed bronze with a time of 0:59:68.
