National Al-Quran competition finalists announced

The semi-final of the National Al-Quran Memorisation and its Understanding Competition was held for three days, from March 2 until yesterday, at Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB), Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha.

Sixty participants competed and 25 made it to the final round.

Chairman of the Board of the panel of judges Mohammad Hashim bin Haji Abdullah announced the finalists yesterday.

Guest of honour Head of Policy, Planning and Research Section of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Pengiran Anak Dr Haji Amiruddin Alam Shah bin Pengiran Anak Haji Ismail presented prizes to participants and judges.

The ceremony commenced with recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Pengiran Haji Norhasib bin Pengiran Haji Bungsu, followed by welcoming remarks by chairman of the organising committee Pengiran Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit and the announcement of the results.

Fifteen participants presented their readings for Category A in the morning session.

The competition is aimed at encouraging Muslims to love Al-Quran and producing more Huffaz (Al-Quran memoriser) while motivating them to understand the meaning of Al-Quran verses including facts of the Surah, advice, examples and Tajwid.
