Defence counsels in the Mumong murder case applied in the High Court on Monday for their clients to be released on bail.
Hassan bin Yussof, 65, and Rosnani binti Tanga, 51, face a charge of the murder of a 37-year-old Indonesian woman at a house in STKRJ Kampong Mumong, Jalan Derma Wangsa, Kuala Belait between 6am and 8am on October 10.
Rosnani had undergone mental assessment as ordered and was found fit to stand trial.
The case has been set for further mention on January 4, 2021.
Following the developments, lawyers Roy Prabhakaran and Kamal Shaari of Messrs Yusof Halim and Partners sought for the release of their clients on bail pending further proceedings.
The defence counsels claimed that there is no evidence linking their clients to the crime.
DPP Rozaimah Abdul Rahman objected with the basis that there is a risk of the defendants interfering with witnesses.
Chief Justice Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong dismissed the bail application on finding the prosecution’s objections to the court’s satisfaction.
The murder charge against the couple remains, which carries the death penalty.
