The Secretariat of the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) – including the JobCentre Brunei (JCB) – will participate in the 5th Higher Education Expo 2020 at BRIDEX Hall 1 and 2 in Jerudong on February 8 and 9.
With the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the MPEC was established on November 18, 2019 to ensure effective manpower planning in alignment to employability and focussing on gainful and sustainable employment towards tackling unemployment in Brunei Darussalam.
Under the MPEC strategic plan, nine focus areas are identified to be implemented, covering three pillars: Manpower Supply, Demand (Job Opportunities and Employment) and Enablers, which are critical deliverables towards closing the gap between supply and demand.
The supply pillar involves close collaboration with the education sector to ensure education and training institutions – including local universities and technical and vocational institutions – are producing skilled human capital able to meet the needs of industries and the economy.
During the expo, the secretariat will showcase the various MPEC initiatives as well as information on identified job opportunities in various sectors in the next five years.
The secretariat will also share tips on being resilient and dynamic in facing the changing nature of work, especially in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Additionally, JCB will also share available vacancies and tips on how to ace an interview and write a good curriculum vitae.
During the expo, the JCB team will assist with registration into the portal.
In an effort to directly hear from the local working population (employed and unemployed), the MPEC Secretariat will also launch an online survey to further understand issues relating to unemployment in this country.
