UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universitas Islam Riau (UIR), Indonesia recently.
The MoU was signed at UNISSA Campus in Jalan Gadong with UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal and UIR Rector Professor Dr H Syafrinaldi signing on behalf of their institutions.
Prior to the signing, both sides expressed hope that the MoU signing will enable the exploration of cooperation in more specific areas such as student and academic force exchanges, research and seminars.
The UNISSA Rector said although their campus is now situated in a temporary space, they are eager to work together with foreign tertiary institutions to pave the way for the development of Islamic education and learning systems in the international arena.
“In this endeavour, UNISSA will always strive to explore new areas that can help enhance the credibility of its existing programmes to help boost the development of the religion and the country,” he said.
The UIR Rector, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation to UNISSA for the opportunity to be partners in academic development. He said both universities share similar goals and understanding in enhancing Islamic education. He also expressed UIR’s anticipation to work formally with UNISSA and also agreed that mutual understanding is needed to ensure that these collaborations can materialise.
The MoU signing was witnessed by Acting Deputy Rector of UNISSA Dr Arman bin Haji Asmad, as well as four officials from UIR.
