In a move to widen relations and collaboration with foreign institutions of higher education, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysia’s Management and Science University (MSU) through a ‘desk to desk’ basis yesterday.

MSU is one of the world’s best universities placed at 601-650 according to the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS-WUR) 2022, and in the list of the 22 best universities in Malaysia.

Representing UNISSA was its Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal. MSU was represented by its president Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.

The MoU opens a new avenue for UNISSA to realise its vision of becoming a genuine Islamic university with international standard that is progressive and dynamic based on Al-Quran and As-Sunnah.

Through the MoU, the two universities will establish cooperation in core areas – research, teaching and staff and student development.

One of UNISSA faculties that will take the initial initiative to hold the joint venture is the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Finance (FEKIm) together with the Faculty of Business and Professional Studies (FBPS), MSU.

Dean of FEKIm Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani and the faculty’s academic staff expressed their commitment to organise and conduct several cooperation programmes in areas such as economics, Islamic finance and management with FBPS MSU in the near future.

Among them is the expansion of the existing study programme, student exchange at the undergraduate level, research and publication collaboration between academics and students at the graduate level, co-organisation of seminars, conferences, workshops, training and student placement for industrial training.
