Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mindanao State University, Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU-TCTO), Philippines in a ceremony at the Senate Room of UNISSA yesterday.
Signing on behalf of UNISSA was Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal while MSU-TCTO was represented by its Chancellor Dr Mary Joyce Z Guinto-Sali.
Prior to the signing, Dr Haji Norarfan welcomed the MSU-TCTO delegation and hoped the signing of the MoU will establish cooperation enabling to explore in the relevant fields.
The chancellor thanked UNISSA for accepting the institution as its partners in knowledge development and noted that ties between Brunei and Mindanao Tawi-Tawi were established since the early period of Brunei Sultanate that propagated Islam in the islands of South Philippines.
MSU-TCTO hoped to expand the Islamic Religious Knowledge concept with the assistance from UNISSA that has been identified as a specialist in this field.
MSU-TCTO plans to send several students to enrol in short- and long-term courses in skilled programmes in the field of Syariah, Arabic and Halal Research.
Deputy rector, assistant rector and several main officials of UNISSA and the five member delegation of MSU-TCTO witnessed the signing.
UNISSA has signed MoUs with three universities in the Philippines and has implemented several activities at international level.
