Life transformation begins with a decision and we must aim to commit ourselves to it in pursuit of its worthiness, said invited speaker from Singapore Mizi Wahid from Safinah Institute on life coaching session ‘Regain Your Confidence, Pursue Your Biggest Dream’ during the National Youth Day Convention 2022 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.

He said our self-worth is made up of self-evaluated ability, our performance and self-talk.

“Don’t look at your blemish, but be proud of yourself and you don’t need any negative self-talk when it comes to image.”

The speaker also shared his thoughts on social media and how it affects the self-image and advised youth not to focus on other people’s life, but bring happiness to themselves. “It will demoralise you if you spend too much time in social media,” he said.

He also advised netizens to be mindful of their social media usage and to only share what is appropriate and keep some in private.

Mizi also spoke about the 10 ways to enhance your self-esteem – to associate with optimists, practice positive self-talk, be aware of your best qualities, enhance your appearance, see the person you want to be, be a good friend to someone, use encouraging words, worry less, wake up happy, and visualise triumphs.

“One should feel good about who you are. When you know who you are and you’re pleased with the person you’ve become, you will maintain a sense of peace throughout the inevitable ups and downs in life,” Mizi said.

He shared practical steps to confidence building such as to dress smartly, good hygiene, to stand-up straight, to walk with purpose, smile and speak up, and sitting in front.

He also advised youth to be grateful with what we have and said youth is the best time to fulfil your dreams. “Your youth is your gift, use it wisely,” he added.
