A mother of three who trespassed into a private property with the intention of stealing was sentenced to three years and six months in prison by the Intermediate Court on Tuesday after she was found guilty.
The defendant was charged with stealing a Samsung S4, Huawei P9, Acer Iconia, iPhone 4, Samsung Tab, power bank, jewellery, a walkie-talkie set and a PlayStation portable game console from a flat in Kampong Kiarong on February 11, 2019 between 6.3am and 12.40pm.
While handing down the sentence to the defendant Rasidah binti Metussin, 31, Magistrate Pengiran Hajah Norismayanti binti Pengiran Haji Ismail said she was satisfied that the prosecution team proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In her mitigation, the defendant pleaded for leniency as she has three children, aged three, one and one month.
The prosecution led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali however insisted that a custodial sentence is fitting due to the serious charges and the fact that the property owner suffered losses and trauma due to the defendant’s actions.
