More tournaments for junior players

More tournaments will accommodate junior players in the country amid the success of the Brunei National Junior Table Tennis Championship 2021 at the Menglait Sports Complex recently.

Tournament Director Steven Yap said the championship, organised by the Brunei Darussalam Table Tennis Association (BDTTA), marked the start of junior events with more to be held in the future.

Participants’ names were also put up in the national ranking table and were submitted to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to be registered and recognised by people all over the world.

Felix Low Guo Zhang won the under-16 boys’ singles category while Ling Yi Zhen won the under-16 girls’ singles title.

Chin Fong Bin finished runners-up while Wong Jun Yuan settled for third place. In the under-16 girls’ singles category, Lim Xing Yee emerged runners-up with Nicole Wong E Rou taking third place.

Awangku Md Asyraf Muazuddin bin Pengiran Haji Aminul Sarni clinched the under-12 boys’ singles title with Yumiko Woo Jing winning the under-12 girls’ singles title.

The pairing of Lim Yeu Jun and Felix Low Guo Zhang won the under-16 boys’ doubles category while the duo of Phoebe Chong Xiao Wei and Nicole Wong E Rou won the under-16 girls’ doubles title.

Meanwhile, Awangku Abdul Rasheed bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad Noor won the the under-21 boys’ singles category while Cecilia Lu Hui Hui won the under-21 girls’ singles title.

Duo Awangku Abdul Rasheed and Awangku Abdul Basheer bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad Noor won the under-21 boys’ doubles title while Cecilia Lu Hui Hui and Ling Yi Xuan won the under-21 girls’ doubles title. In the mixed doubles open category, the pairing of Muhammad Khairuddin bin Omar and Lim Xing Yee emerged champion.

Deputy Director (Academic) of Lifelong Learning Centre at the Ministry of Education Walter Chong Meng Siong was the guest of honour.
