More donations pour in for firefighting heroes

AS FIREFIGHTERS continue to battle the huge peatland forest fire in the Belait District around the clock, members of the public and private companies have come forward with donations of food and water.

The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) conveyed its heartfelt appreciation for the contributions, but reminded the public not to take advantage of obtaining assistance for self interest using the name of the department.

The fight to extinguish the forest fires will take time. This is because it is not only the surface that is affected, but underneath too, therefore more water is needed for total flooding to completely douse the fire.

In view of the current situation, the FRD urged members of the public not to conduct open burning. They were also urged to apply sand or water onto small roadside fires to prevent their spread. Road users are urged to drive slow in areas affected by fire and thick smoke.

In the event of an emergency, the public can contact 995. To report suspicious acts of arson, contact the police at 993, or contact Darussalam hotline at 123 to report on open burning.
